Vanraj Chavda had founded A?ahilpur Patan in 802 CE as capital of his state. Capital was named on his friend name Anhil Bharvad. A?ahilpur Patan was famous as capital in era of Vanraj Chavda and Solanki or Chaulukya dynasty. Patan was ruled by powerful kings like King Bhimdev, Siddhraj Jaisinh, Kumarpal. Udan, Munjal Mehta, Tejpal – Vastupal were secretaries to Kings in different era of Chaulukya kingdom. Jain Scholars like Hemchandrachrya, Shanti Suri and Shripal had provided guidence to the kingdom. Acharya Hemchandrachrya was a jain scholar, poet and polymath who wrote on grammer, philosophy and contemporary history. He gained the title “Kalikal Sarvgna”, “the all knowing of the Kali Yuga”.

Two famous architectrural monuments have gain the status of national monuments. One of them is Sahastralinga tank and other one is Rani ki vav stepwell. Rani ki vav is an intricately constructed stepwell situated in the town of Patan in Gujarat, India. It is located on the banks of Saraswati River. Rani ki vav was built as a memorial to an 11th-century AD king Bhimdev for his queen Rani Udaymati. It was added to the list of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites on 22 June 2014. Hemchandrachary Liabrary, Jain Temples and Kalika Mataji Temple of King Siddhraj Jaisinh are imporatant places in Patan. Patan was important part in era of Vadodara state. Newly created Patan District has Taluka of Radhanpur, which was part of Babi Nawab dynasty. Sidhpur is famous for historical Rudra Mahalaya and Bindu Sarovar as “Matru Tarpan Tirth”. The Shankheshwar Jain Temple is located in the center of Shankheshwar town of Patan district. The temple is dedicated to Parshwanath Bhagwan is an important place of pilgrimage for the followers of Jainism.
